Welcome to... Your Home Away From Home
___
As you board the Norwegian Gem, you realize that the ship is enormous! This is your first cruise and you’ve never been on a ship before so you are very excited. You wonder what you can do on this cruise. A woman dressed in a uniform asks for your stateroom card. You have no idea what she’s talking about.
You must have a puzzled look on your face because she then says “I mean the card that they gave you along with your map of the ship” You quickly go through your bag and fish out the little gold-colored card. You then hand it to her, face red with embarrassment. She slides it into a card slot and pulls it back out again. She looks at your face and then the picture on a laptop. It was the picture that the person at the sign in table took of you, just 10 minutes ago. She smiles as she hands back your card. You shove it into your bag and walk to the sliding glass door that some people wearing vests were gesturing towards. They all had friendly smiles on their faces.
Your room was on the 9th deck. You walk towards the elevator, hoping that your luggage was already taken to your room. When you get inside the elevator, you push on the number 9. The elevator doors close and you feel it moving up. "Deck 9, going up" a voice says, as the elevator doors slide open. You walk outside to see that you are in front of a set of stairs. You look to your left and right. There are long hallways with identical doors on both sides of it. It reminds you of an apartment. There are little plaques on the left of each door that have the room number on them. There is a bigger plaque next to the first door in sight. It says "staterooms 9000-9400" with an arrow pointing to the left and "staterooms 9401-9999" with an arrow to the right. You walk to the hallway on the left and stop at the stateroom #9115. You slide your card into the card slot and pull it back out. the small, square, light above the card slot flashed green. You pushed down the handle and opened the door. Your stateroom was small but it was cozy. Your stateroom would have too many beds if it was just for you, but your family was coming, so the twin bed and the 2 bunk beds were necessary.
When your family was gathered inside the little stateroom, you ask them where they wanted to go to eat. You and your family decide to go to Grand Pacific and you go.
Coming back from the restaurant, you and your family see your luggage at your door. You unpack and wonder what you do now. You glance at your watch and see that it is 11:04. You decide that it is pretty late and you think you should go to bed. But your parents said that on this cruise, they don't really care if you sleep or not during the night, as long as you don't bother them...
